Lunchtime

What if I don't know where to go at lunchtime?

Lots of Year 6 pupils wonder what lunchtime will be like before they start secondary school.

Questions like...

  • Where do I sit?

  • Who will I eat with?

  • What if I can't find the dining hall?

...are completely normal.

The good news is that teachers and staff know lots of new Year 7 pupils feel this way and they'll be there to help.

What Year 7 Students Told Us

⭐ "I was worried I'd have nobody to sit with, but someone invited me to join them."

⭐ "The dinner hall looked really busy at first, but I got used to it quickly."

⭐ "There were lots of places to sit inside and outside."

⭐ "I found my favourite lunchtime spot after a few days."

⭐ "I joined a lunchtime club and met loads of new people."

⭐ "Lunchtime became one of my favourite parts of the day."

🎯 Top Tips

🍽️ Take your time—there's no need to rush.

😊 If you're unsure where to sit, ask if you can join someone.

👫 Meet up with classmates after you've collected your lunch.

🎨 Have a look at any lunchtime clubs your school offers.

🥪 If you bring a packed lunch, check where your school says you should eat it.

🚶 Don't worry if you don't know where everything is on your first day—you'll soon find your favourite places.

Remember...

Everyone feels new on their first few days. Before long, you'll know where to eat, who to meet and where you like spending your lunchtime.

One day, you'll look back and wonder why you were ever worried!
